Retaining Walls
A retaining wall’s job is holding grade and moving water correctly — the finished look matters, but only after the engineering behind it is right.

Overview
How we approach retaining walls.
Retaining walls solve a grading problem: a slope that needs to hold, a grade change between two parts of a yard, or soil that needs to stay put next to a driveway or patio. Getting this right starts below the surface — with drainage behind the wall so water pressure doesn’t build up and push it out of place over time.
Once the structural side is handled, we finish the wall in a material and cap that ties into the rest of the property, whether that’s matching a patio’s paver family or standing on its own as a landscape feature.
What's included
What matters in a retaining walls project.
- Engineered for the specific grade change and soil conditions on your property, not a generic wall height
- Drainage built in behind the wall — the part that determines whether it lasts
- Cap and material options that coordinate with existing or planned hardscape
- Handles slope problems that erosion or drainage work alone can’t solve

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need a retaining wall versus a grading fix?
It depends on the slope and how much grade change needs to be held — we’ll assess the site and recommend the right approach, which isn’t always a wall.
What stops a retaining wall from failing over time?
Proper drainage behind the wall is the biggest factor — without it, water pressure builds up and pushes the wall out of alignment, regardless of how the face looks.
Can a retaining wall include seating or planting space?
Yes — a wall can double as a seat wall or a raised planting bed edge depending on the design.
